Recap: Jonesboro Cardinals vs. Woodward Academy War Eagles
The Jonesboro Cardinals's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight loss. They were outmatched by Woodward Academy at home and fell 55-24. Jonesboro has struggled against Woodward Academy recently, as their game on Tuesday was their ninth consecutive lost matchup.
Several Cardinals players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Janiya Hullett, who scored nine points along with two steals. Hullett has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last eight times she's played. Christian Wright was another key contributor, scoring six points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Woodward Academy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Z Williams, who scored 15 points along with five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Delaney Cooper, who scored ten points along with seven rebounds and seven blocks.
Jonesboro has not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-6 record this season. As for Woodward Academy, their victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-4.
Jonesboro will be playing in front of their home fans against Westlake at 12:30 p.m. on Monday. Westlake presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Jonesboro in Georgia (Westlake is ranked 58th, while Jonesboro is ranked 200th). Woodward Academy on the road again on Saturday and play against Rockdale County at 4:00 p.m. on January 13th. Rockdale County is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
