Basketball Game Preview: Montezuma-Cortez Panthers vs. Centauri Falcons

Montezuma-Cortez is on a three-game streak of home wins, while Centauri is on a eight-game streak of away wins (dating back to last season): one of those streaks is about to end. The Montezuma-Cortez Panthers will welcome the Centauri Falcons at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Montezuma-Cortez knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past six games -- so hopefully Centauri likes a good challenge.

Last Saturday, Montezuma-Cortez didn't have too much breathing room in their match against Bayfield, but they still walked away with a 59-54 win.

Meanwhile, Centauri didn't have too much trouble with Pagosa Springs on Saturday as they won 54-39. Given the Falcons' advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 29th, while the Pirates are ranked 215th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Montezuma-Cortez has also been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.5 points per game. As for Centauri, their victory bumped their record up to 16-0.

Things could have been worse for Montezuma-Cortez, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 58-41 loss to Centauri in their previous meeting back in January.
