Basketball Game Preview: Cape Hatteras Hurricanes vs. Columbia Wildcats

Cape Hatteras is 8-2 against Columbia since January of 2020 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Cape Hatteras Hurricanes will welcome the Columbia Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. Cape Hatteras is coming into the game hot, having won their last four games.

Last Thursday, Cape Hatteras humbled Hobgood Charter with a 48-21 victory. The Hurricanes have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six matchups by 22 points or more this season.

Cape Hatteras found their leader in sophomore Taylor Hickman, who went 8-for-15 on her way to 20 points along with eight boards and three blocks. Hickman has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last eight times she's played. Paizley Schultz was another key player, putting up ten points and five rebounds.

Cape Hatteras smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in seven consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Columbia came up short against Bear Grass Charter on Thursday and fell 47-37. The Wildcats have struggled against the Bears recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive lost matchup.

Cape Hatteras pushed their record up to 10-7 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.0 points over those games. As for Columbia, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-10.

Cape Hatteras beat Columbia 52-45 when the teams last played on Tuesday. Will Cape Hatteras repeat their success, or does Columbia have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
