Volleyball Recap: Niwot Falls Short Against Ranked Fossil Ridge

Niwot faced Fossil Ridge in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Cougars fell just short of the SaberCats by a score of 3-2. The Cougars were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the SaberCats earlier this season, when they won 3-0.

Niwot actually scored more points across those five sets (115-113), but sadly they still had to settle for second. The match finished with set scores of 28-26, 25-21, 28-30, 17-25, 15-13.

Diego Kheng paced Niwot's offense, picking up 19 kills. Kheng got some help from Jasper Helgans and his 53 assists. Finally, Tristin Whittaker and Ethan Husk kept the team grounded on defense, each having blocked three attacks.

Niwot is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 13-9. As for Fossil Ridge, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-5 record this season.

Niwot didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 3-0 victory against Riverdale Ridge on the 29th. As for Fossil Ridge, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 3-2 win against Arvada West on the 29th.
