Preview: Wadley Bulldogs vs. Pickens County Tornadoes

The Wadley Bulldogs will take on the Pickens County Tornadoes at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with Wadley sitting on six straight wins and Pickens County on five.

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Wadley walked away with it. They took their contest on the road on Friday with ease, bagging a 81-27 victory over South Lamar. Wadley might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team's won 11 contests by 26 points or more this season.

Wadley's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Cortavion Lynch, who rushed for 88 yards and two touchdowns on only nine carries, and Jaquez Wilkes, who rushed for 164 yards and two touchdowns on only 12 carries. Wilkes was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 60 yards. Frisco Robertson was in the mix as well, providing Wadley with two touchdowns.

Meanwhile, Pickens County earned a 38-29 victory over Winterboro on Friday.

Among those leading the charge was Rozowicz Cunningham, who rushed for 130 yards and three touchdowns on only 14 carries. The team also got some help courtesy of Kemaurion Plott, who rushed for 23 yards and two touchdowns.

Their wins bumped Wadley to 11-1 and Pickens County to 9-3.

Friday's contest might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Wadley has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 295 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Pickens County struggles in that department as they've been averaging 151.7 per game. It's looking like Friday's game might have some serious battles in the trenches. Wadley ended up a good deal behind Pickens County in their previous meeting back in November of 2022, losing 34-15. Thankfully for Wadley, Elijah Merriweather (who rushed for 138 yards and a touchdown while picking up 8.6 yards per carry) won't be suiting up this time.
