Basketball Preview: Virgin Valley Bulldogs vs. Moapa Valley Pirates

Virgin Valley is 0-10 against the Pirates since January of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Virgin Valley Bulldogs will head out on the road to square off against the Moapa Valley Pirates at 5:00 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Virgin Valley comes in on five and the Pirates on seven.

Last Tuesday, Virgin Valley didn't have too much trouble with the Knights on the road as they won 47-30.

Audrey Fiso went supernova for Virgin Valley, scoring 15 points along with five rebounds and three steals. It was the first time this season that Fiso scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Mady Wright, who scored nine points.

Meanwhile, Moapa Valley stacked a 15th blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Tuesday. They really took it to Pinecrest Academy Cadence for the full four quarters, racking up a 56-13 victory on the road. The match was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point Moapa Valley had established a 30 point advantage.

Moapa Valley got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Savanna Burt out in front who dropped a double-double on ten assists and 13 steals. Burt is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Claire Cox, who scored 19 points along with eight rebounds.

Virgin Valley is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 18-10 record this season. As for Moapa Valley, their victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 21-3.

Virgin Valley lost to the Pirates on the road by a decisive 52-38 margin in their previous meeting back in January. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Moapa Valley's Haylie Western, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 14 rebounds.
