Basketball Recap: Mason Volzer's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Lincoln over Marysville

Lincoln easily dispatched Wheatland last Friday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Lincoln Fighting Zebras fell just short of the Marysville Indians by a score of 60-57 on Wednesday. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Friday (56), the Fighting Zebras still had to take the loss.

Lincoln lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Mason Volzer, who went 6-for-11 on his way to 16 points and six boards. Thanks to that strong game, he now owns an excellent 45.2% shooting accuracy. Another player making a difference was Jacob Butler, who went 5-for-10 en route to 13 points and three blocks.

Jordan Brooks continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Marysville, going 5-for-8 to rack up 11 points along with eight rebounds and six assists. The dominant performance gave Brooks a new career-high in assists. Jordan Witt was another key player, going 5-for-11 on his way to 13 points.

Lincoln's loss dropped their record down to 20-7. As for Marysville, their victory was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 20-7.

Lincoln and Marysville should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. Lincoln (ranked 339th) will meet Center (ranked 839th) at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Lincoln is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 61 points per game this season. Similarly, Marysville will challenge Wheatland at 7:30 p.m. on Friday up 842 places (319 vs. 1161).
