Basketball Recap: Florence Comes Up Short in High-Profile Game with Austin

On Tuesday, Florence faced Austin in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Florence Falcons took a 75-60 bruising from the Austin Black Bears. The Falcons lost against the Black Bears in their previous head to head back in January of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 87-48 score last time.

Florence's defeat dropped their record down to 14-6. As for Austin, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 16-6.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Florence will head out to take on Thompson at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Austin, they will venture away from home to face off against Columbia at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Austin knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past five matchups -- so hopefully Columbia likes a good challenge.
