Baseball Recap: West Potomac Starts off Right with Win over L.C. Bird

West Potomac had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. Everything went their way against the L.C. Bird Skyhawks on Saturday as the West Potomac Wolverines made off with a 13-3 victory.

Alex Cortes was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Cortes was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in both of his plate appearances.

In other batting news, West Potomac let Barrett Baker and Liam Cardman run wild. Baker scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2, while Cardman scored a run and stole Two bases. while going 1-for-2. The dominant performance gave Cardman a new career-high in stolen bases. Another player making a difference was Connor Winkelfoos, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. West Potomac will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against West Springfield at 6:30 p.m. on March 18th. This will be West Potomac's first chance to prove their worth in the conference. As for L.C. Bird, they will take on Hermitage at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
