The Bend Lava Bears will square off against the Corvallis Spartans at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
On Friday, Bend didn't have quite enough to beat Caldera and fell 15-13.
Bend got a massive performance out of Cassidy Sandgren, who fired off two home runs and four RBI while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Lauren Glasser, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Corvallis). They were the clear victors by a 28-8 margin over McKay on Friday. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Spartans as it put an end to their seven-game losing streak.
Corvallis got a massive performance out of Olivia Richardson, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, five RBI, and three doubles. Those three doubles gave Richardson a new career-high. Parker Doerr was another key player, going 4-for-5 with five RBI, three runs, and three doubles.
Corvallis always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .688. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in four consecutive matchups.
Bend now has a losing record of 7-8-1. As for Corvallis, their win was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-5 and their overall record up to 3-12.
Corvallis' pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Bend has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.7 hits per game. It's a different story for Corvallis, though, as they've been averaging 9.5 hits. Given Bend's sizable advantage in that area, the Spartans will need to find a way to close that gap.
