Basketball Recap: Blue Springs Proves Higher State Rank Is No Mistake

After losing to Belton the last time they met, Blue Springs decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Blue Springs Wildcats walked away with a 58-48 win over the Belton Pirates on Saturday. Given the Wildcats' advantage in MaxPreps' Missouri basketball rankings (they are ranked 44th, while the Pirates are ranked 193rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Belton's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Caleb Campbell, who went 6 of 13 on his way to 13 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Cooper Shrum, who posted eight points and ten rebounds.

Blue Springs has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season. As for Belton, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-5.

Blue Springs wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 70-63 loss against Battle on the 29th. As for Belton, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 46-42 victory against Van Horn on the 29th.
