South Hills took care of business in their home opener on Thursday (and then some). They blew past the Diamond Hill-Jarvis Eagles, posting a 59-7 win at home. The victory was some much needed relief for the Scorpions as it spelled an end to their ten-game losing streak dating back to last season.

South Hills found their leader in underclassman Douglas Cook, who rushed for 122 yards and two touchdowns on only 12 carries. Luis Sancen was another key player, gaining 76 total yards and two touchdowns.

South Hills' defense was in the mix too, especially the secondary: they snagged three passes before it was all said and done. It was truly a group effort as Desmez Vargas, Erick Flores, and Isaac Lopez picked up one apiece. Vargas also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, making a tackle and defending two passes in addition to snagging an interception.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. South Hills will face off against Castleberry at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. South Hills is no doubt hoping to put an end to a five-game streak of away losses dating back to last season. As for Diamond Hill-Jarvis, they will head out to square off against North Side at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Diamond Hill-Jarvis will come in still looking for their first win of the season.
