Football Recap: Dawson Piles Up the Points Against Alvin

Dawson entered their tilt with Alvin on Friday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They breezed past the Yellowjackets to the tune of 42-7. Given the Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 264th, while the Yellowjackets are ranked 874th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

Dawson's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Luke Brown, who threw for 200 yards and one touchdown on only 11 passes, and also punched in a pair of scores on the ground. Those 200 passing yards gave Brown a new career-high. Corey Brown did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 170 receiving yards.

Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Dawson proved: they limited Alvin to a paltry 2.5 yards per carry. While two picked up at least 11 total tackles, Caden Exum stood above the rest. He picked up two sacks and made 11 total tackles. Dawson didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 10.7.

Dawson's defense didn't let the opposing QB, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for five sacks. Leading the way was Exum with two. Exum is also crushing it when it comes to total tackles: he's made at least nine every time he's taken the field this season. Dawson got some further help from Clydell Edmondson: he picked up a sack and made 11 total tackles.

Dawson's record now sits at 7-2. As for Alvin, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-6.

Dawson didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 38-31 loss against Manvel on the 31st. As for Alvin, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 38-7 defeat against Dobie on the 30th.
