Recap: Western Plains Bobcats vs. Dighton Hornets

The Western Plains Bobcats lost a heartbreaker when they last took the court, but unfortunately for them the defeat they were handed on on Friday was a bit more commanding. Their rough 56-30 loss to Dighton might stick with them for a while. Western Plains was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 33-11.

Despite the loss, Western Plains saw an underclassman step up: Madelyn Kraus scored 18 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. That was a full 60% of Western Plains' points, marking the tenth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Jaelyn Spangler was another key contributor, scoring four points along with six assists and four steals.

Dighton's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Lani Speer led the charge by dropping a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds. Speer is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as she's now posted two or more in the last 15 games she's played. Another player making a difference was Kenzie Zimmerman, who scored six points along with seven assists and five rebounds.

Western Plains dropped their record down to 2-14 with that loss, which was their sixth straight on the road. As for Dighton, their victory bumped their record up to 6-12.

Western Plains will head out on the road to face off against Triplains/Brewster at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Western Plains is facing Triplains/Brewster at the right time seeing as Triplains/Brewster is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Dighton, they will look to defend their home court on Monday against Wheatland-Grinnell at 6:00 p.m. Hopefully Dighton focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Friday.
