Basketball Recap: Red Wing Takes a Loss

Red Wing lost against Mayo back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Red Wing Wingers took a blow against the Mayo Spartans, falling 85-46. While losing is never fun, the Wingers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Minnesota basketball rankings (they are ranked 229th, while the Spartans are ranked 73rd).

Red Wing has been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last nine games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-12 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.0 points per game. As for Mayo, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 13-6.

Red Wing will head out on the road to take on Mankato West at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Mankato West knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past six contests -- so hopefully Red Wing likes a good challenge. As for Mayo, they will face off against Austin at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
