Basketball Recap: DePaul Catholic Comes Up Short

DePaul Catholic fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against West Orange on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the West Orange Mountaineers by a score of 58-55. While losing is never fun, the Spartans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New Jersey basketball rankings (they are ranked 71st, while the Mountaineers are ranked 13th).

West Orange's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Rhyan Watt, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten steals. Watt's evening made it six games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kyley Gary-Grayson, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds.

DePaul Catholic is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-4. As for West Orange, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-4 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. DePaul Catholic has already played their next contest (against Passaic Valley), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. West Orange has also has no score uploaded for their next match, this one against Immaculate Conception.
