Basketball Recap: Cole Smith's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Carson City-Crystal over Fulton

Carson City-Crystal lost against Fulton back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Carson City-Crystal Eagles took a hard 61-42 fall against the Fulton Pirates. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 687th, while the Pirates are ranked 300th).

Carson City-Crystal's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Cole Smith, who dropped a double-double with 13 points and ten boards. Smith has become a key player for Carson City-Crystal: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least ten rebounds, but 1-17 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Adan Medrano, who shot 45% from the field en route to 13 points.

Even though they lost, Carson City-Crystal smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in four consecutive games.

Carson City-Crystal has traveled a rocky road recently having lost 11 of their last 13 matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-18 record this season. Fulton is on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 14 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-5 record this season.

Carson City-Crystal wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 65-41 loss against Saranac on the 24th. As for Fulton, they have also already played their next match, a 59-47 defeat against St. Patrick on the 26th.
