Softball Game Preview: Albany Hornets vs. Lakeshore

The Albany Hornets will head out on the road to face off against Lakeshore at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

On Friday, Albany made easy work of Kenner Discovery Health Sciences Academy and carried off a 13-2 win.

Meanwhile, Lakeshore had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 10-4 margin over the Bulldogs. Ten seems to be a good number for Lakeshore as the squad scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Annabella Litolff spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on 11 hits. Those hits marked the first that she allowed this season.

On the hitting side, Sydney Arnold was a standout: she scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Baileigh Mahne, who scored a run while going 4-for-4.

Lakeshore was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .486. The last time their batting average was this high was back in February of 2024.

Lakeshore's win was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-8. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. As for Albany, they now have a winning record of 13-12.

Albany took their win against Lakeshore in their previous meeting back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 11-5 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Hornets since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
