Softball Recap: Chireno Find Success

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Joaquin, Chireno was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. They walked away with a 13-10 win over the Shelbyville Dragons. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Owls' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

K MOORE spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and eight unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, K LASKOSKIE was incredible, firing off three home runs, six RBI, and four runs while going 4-for-5. She also put up a stolen base, which was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was K ANDREWS, who went 4-for-5 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

Chireno was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .436. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Shelbyville only posted a batting average of .242.

The victory got Chireno back to even at 7-7. As for Shelbyville, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-17-2 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Chireno will square off against rival Martinsville at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Shelbyville is set to take on their familiar foe Broaddus at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
