Basketball Preview: Portal Panthers vs. Emanuel County Institute Bulldogs
Portal is 9-1 against the Bulldogs since December of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Portal Panthers will be playing at home against the Emanuel County Institute Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. The timing is sure in Portal's favor as the squad sits on 24 straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while the Bulldogs have been banged up by 21 consecutive losses on the road dating back to last season.
Portal put the finishing touches on their tenth blowout victory of the season on Saturday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Bryan County 85-32 at home. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 38-14.
It was another big night for Joseph Thomas, who went 7 for 12 from beyond the arc en route to 35 points and 1 assist. He has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last six times he's played. Amir Jackson was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds.
Meanwhile, things could have been worse for Emanuel County Institute, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 69-50 loss to the War Eagles on Friday. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Emanuel County Institute in their matchups with the War Eagles: they've now lost six in a row.
Portal's win bumped their record up to 22-1. As for Emanuel County Institute, their loss dropped their record down to 3-15.
Everything came up roses for Portal against the Bulldogs in their previous matchup last Friday as the squad secured a 87-43 win. With Portal ahead 56-23 at the half, the contest was all but over already.
