Haylee Heaton was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 13 batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and six unearned) runs off five hits. Those 13 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 3-for-4.
In other batting news, Stephani Serna was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March of 2024. Myah Christensen also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Kearns hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They are 3-1 when they post two or more strikeouts.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Granger). They were the clear victors by a 17-2 margin over Skyline on Wednesday. The Lancers not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 19, 2024.
Like Kearns, Granger also got a great game from a two-way player: Alyiana Arriaga. She struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits (and only one walk). Arriaga has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.
In other batting news, Granger got a massive performance out of Angelia Naeata, who scored four runs and stole five bases while going 4-for-4. Mia Hernandez was another key player, scoring four runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-3.
Granger's win ended a nine-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-8. As for Kearns, their record now sits at 4-6.
Thursday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Kearns has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .464. However, it's not like Granger struggles in that department as they've averaged .457. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Kearns skirted past Granger 9-8 in their previous matchup on March 11th. The rematch might be a little tougher for Kearns since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
