Baseball Recap: Doane Academy's Undefeated Season over After 13 Games

After flying high against Palmyra on Wednesday, Doane Academy came back down to earth. Doane Academy fell just short of the Maple Shade Wildcats by a score of 4-2 on Thursday. The matchup marked Doane Academy's lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Jacob Powell was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three stolen bases and one run.

In other batting news, Hunter Johnson made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played.

Having lost for the first time this season, Doane Academy fell to 12-1. As for Maple Shade, their win bumped their record up to 5-6.

Looking ahead, Doane Academy will face off against Riverside at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Maple Shade has already played their next contest (against Pennsauken), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
