Softball Recap: Kennedy Gets the Win

Kennedy's game back in March was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Wednesday. They walked away with a 4-1 win over the Verdugo Hills Dons. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Golden Cougars also won the last time the pair played back in May of 2025.

Samantha Reyes spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Sofia Melgoza, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one double. That double was her first of the season.

The victory was their first on the road, bumping their record up to 3-6. As for Verdugo Hills, the loss snapped their winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 5-2 record.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Kennedy will square off against rival San Fernando at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (the Golden Cougars have won six straight at home dating back to last season, while the Tigers won four straight on the road), something that'll have to change. Meanwhile, Verdugo Hills is set to take on their familiar foe Arleta at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
