Excel took a ten-run defeat the last time they faced off against W.S. Neal, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Panthers won by a run and slipped past the Eagles 5-4. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Panthers.

Excel's win was truly a team effort as seven different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Cayden Chandler, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI. That's the most RBI Chandler has posted since back in March. Another was Hampton Pharr, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Excel's victory bumped their record up to 20-7-1. As for W.S. Neal, the loss snapped their winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 16-9 record.

Excel and W.S. Neal should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Alabama Rankings. The Panthers will take on Millry at 5:00 p.m. on Friday with a big rank advantage (157 vs. 316). Meanwhile, W.S. Neal (ranked 124th) will meet Pleasant Home (ranked 414th) at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.
