AAAA Region 8 recap October 29, 2013
Monroe Area added to the longest winning streak in AAAA Region 8 this week by beating Madison County, 68-14. This was the team's eighth consecutive win.
Monroe Area took down the Red Raiders 68-14 last week, the largest margin of any game.
Lanier's offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Canyon Cook threw for 60 and 1 touchdown and Kymani Brown had 27 yards receiving. On the ground Tario Fuller contributed 239 yards. Tim Leazer helped Lanier's passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 24 yards.
Fuller provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Lanier topped Stephens County. Fuller's favorite target this week was Brown, who caught 2 passes for 27 yards.
Fuller was a force in the backfield as Bill Wells' team topped the Indians.
Fuller was the best running back in the league this week. In 25 carries, he ran for 239 yards as Lanier defeated Stephens County. Cook also contributed to the rushing game with 34 yards on the ground.
Thanks to the talents of Cook and Fuller, Lanier has been able to do all sorts of things on offense. Cook leads the league in passing with 913 yards, while Fuller has rushed for 1,074 yards this season. Matt Fligg's team's Michael Gallup leads the league in receiving yards with 413 on 17 catches.
The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Monroe Area takes on second place Chestatee.
The Hurricanes' Kwan Brooks needs only 75 yards against Chestatee next week to surpass 1,000 rushing yards for the season. In 96 carries Brooks has put up 925 yards this year.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when the War Eagles take on Monroe Area. Chestatee has allowed 108 points this season, while the Hurricanes have given up 80.
Johnson made the biggest leap in the national rankings this week, rising to 10,324 from 10,620. They were able to move up in the ranks after a 21-14 victory over the Knights last week.
