Basketball Game Preview: Deering Rams vs. Thornton Academy Trojans

Having just played yesterday, the Deering Rams will head out on the road to face off against the Thornton Academy Trojans at 7:45 p.m. on Friday. Both are strolling into their matchups after big wins in their previous games.

Deering is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They blew past Massabesic, posting an 82-34 victory. The team's explosion on offense also rewarded the Rams with their most commanding win of the season.

Meanwhile, Thornton Academy came tearing into Tuesday's game with seven straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12.1 points) and they left with even more momentum. They took their contest with ease, bagging a 75-40 win over the Rams. Given the Trojans' advantage in MaxPreps' Maine basketball rankings (they are ranked ninth, while the Rams are ranked 57th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Thornton Academy pushed their record up to 14-2 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. As for Deering, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 8-9.

Deering was able to grind out a solid victory over Thornton Academy when the teams last played back in February of 2024, winning 66-58. Will Deering repeat their success, or does Thornton Academy have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
