Baseball Recap: Wednesday's Loss Ends Ursuline's Winning Streak

Ursuline dropped their record down to 11-8 on Wednesday, which also ended the team's seven-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Louisville Leopards by a score of 5-4. The Fighting Irish were not able to make up for their loss to the Leopards from their previous meeting back in May of 2021.

Dom Polkovitch was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run over 5.2 innings pitched. What's more, he gave up only five hits, the fewest he's had since back in April.

On the hitting side, Ursuline saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was CJ Snyder, who went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases and one run. Another was AJ Snyder, who earned two RBI, one run, and one stolen base.

As for Louisville, their victory ended a nine-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 8-10. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win they have posted since April 12th.

On Louisville's side, Brock Leghart looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over four innings pitched. Leghart is becoming a predictor of the Leopards' success: when he allows at most three hits the team is 2-1 (and 6-9 when he doesn't).

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Cooper Rice, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.
