Basketball Recap: Franklin Community Takes a Loss

If Franklin Community was riding high fresh off their 72-32 takedown of Greenwood last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The match between the Franklin Community Grizzly Cubs and the Franklin Central Flashes didn't end well, with the Franklin Community Grizzly Cubs falling 79-62. While losing is never fun, the Grizzly Cubs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 105th, while the Flashes are ranked 30th).

When it comes to explaining why Franklin Community lost on Tuesday, don't look at Hanna Stewart. Despite the final result, she went 5 of 7 en route to 13 points along with eight rebounds and five assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Addi Bright, who posted 15 points.

Franklin Central's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Lily Graves led the charge by going 6 of 9 on her way to 25 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. The contest was Graves' fourth in a row with at least ten points. Payton Duvall was another key player, going 7 for 8 on her way to 19 points and seven rebounds.

Franklin Community now has a losing record at 6-7. As for Franklin Central, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 9-5.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Franklin Community and Shelbyville will compete for holiday cheer at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Shelbyville will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something Franklin Community surely won't give up without a fight. Franklin Central will take on Zionsville in a holiday battle at at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.
