Softball Recap: McFarland Takes a Loss

McFarland extended their losing streak to six on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 4-12 in the process. They came up short against the Taft Wildcats, falling 14-1. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Cougars of the 10-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

As for Taft, their victory bumped their record up to 10-11. They not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since March 20th (when they won 20-0).

For Taft's part, Juliana Edgar made a big impact no matter where she played. She pitched five innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. The dominant performance also gave Edgar a new career-high in strikeouts (five). She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two runs.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Rylee Owens, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since April 1st. Another player making a difference was Cierrah Franks, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

While McFarland had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
