Soccer Game Preview: Calvary Christian vs. St. Petersburg Catholic

The Calvary Christian Warriors will face off against the St. Petersburg Catholic Barons at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both are strolling into their contests after big wins in their previous games.

Calvary Christian's defense heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They were the clear victor by a 3-0 margin over Shorecrest Prep. Given the Warriors' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida soccer rankings (they are ranked 106th, while the Chargers are ranked 331st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Sophia Hughes and Ansley Horn scored all three of Calvary Christian's goals, bringing their combined season tally to 12 goals.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask St. Petersburg Catholic). Everything went their way against Cambridge Christian on Friday as St. Petersburg Catholic made off with a 9-0 victory. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.

Calvary Christian is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 6-5 record this season. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only given up two goals over those five contests. As for St. Petersburg Catholic, their victory bumped their record up to 5-8-1.

Calvary Christian took their win against St. Petersburg Catholic in their previous meeting back in December of 2021 by a conclusive 8-1. In that game, Calvary Christian amassed a halftime lead of 5-1, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Tuesday.
