Baseball Recap: Tonkawa Comes Up Short

Tonkawa came into this matchup off a tough ten-run defeat on Friday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of the Ponca City Wildcats by a score of 8-6 on Saturday. If the Buccaneers were looking for revenge after losing 4-3 to the Wildcats when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Westyn Freeman was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over four innings while giving up three earned runs off only two hits. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in March. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Brett Shepherd made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double. Loudyn Alexander also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

This is the second loss in a row for Tonkawa and nudges their season record down to 21-9. As for Ponca City, their victory bumped their record up to 15-26.

Tonkawa has already played their next matchup (against Newkirk), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Ponca City does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
