Baseball Game Preview: Otay Ranch Mustangs vs. Hilltop Lancers

For the second straight game, Otay Ranch will face off against Hilltop. The Mustangs will head out to square off against the Lancers at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Otay Ranch 4, Hilltop 4.1) so any runs scored will be well earned.

If Otay Ranch beats Hilltop with five runs on Friday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two contests with that exact score. The Mustangs skirted past the Lancers 5-3. The Mustangs haven't had any issues with the Lancers recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

Otay Ranch got a great performance from Sebastian Magana as he tossed 5.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. Magana has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Nick Mendoza was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March.

Otay Ranch pushed their record up to 16-5 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Hilltop, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last eight games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-14 record this season.
