Baseball Recap: Lapel Comes Up Short

Despite a phenomenal run in the regular season, Lapel couldn't carry that success into this playoff game. They fell just short of the Wapahani Raiders by a score of 2-1 on Saturday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Bulldogs of the 6-4 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

Kai Newman spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on three hits and racked up nine Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 12 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Lapel saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Camden Novak, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base.

Lapel's defeat dropped their record down to 27-3. As for Wapahani, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 19-8.

Lapel does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Wapahani, they will face off against Oak Hill on Saturday. The Raiders' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Golden Eagles have averaged an impressive 7.2 runs per game this season.
