Baseball Recap: Bucklin Comes Up Short

Bucklin fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Elkhart on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Wildcats by a score of 8-7. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last seven times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Jack Willems put in work no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (four). He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-6.

Willems wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Easton Huck, who went 1-for-5 with one stolen base and two RBI. Nick Feikert was another, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of his six plate appearances.

Bucklin now has a losing record of 1-2.

While they had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair will be back at it again later today.
