Basketball Recap: Bigtyme Prep Academy Beats Marian for Their Fifth Straight Victory

BigTyme Prep Academy proved they can win big on Friday (they won by 35) and on Saturday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Marian Eagles 73-70. The win was familiar territory for the Bears who have now won five contests in a row.

BigTyme Prep Academy was led to victory by Zion Ibekwe and Isaiah Stewart. Ibekwe went 7 of 14 on his way to 22 points in addition to eight rebounds and three steals, while Stewart went 5 for 12 to rack up 19 points and five boards. Ibekwe is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last 15 games he's played. Another player making a difference was Njoroge Nganga, who posted nine points and five rebounds.

Despite the loss, Marian still got an impressive performance from Mathias Baye, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and 11 boards. Those 23 points gave Baye a new career-high. Ehud Tesfaye was another key player, putting up 15 points and five rebounds.

BigTyme Prep Academy's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-11. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 73.0 points over those games. As for Marian, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 21-9.

Looking ahead, BigTyme Prep Academy will square off against North Central Texas Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Marian does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
