Baseball Recap: Marshall County Comes Up Short

Marshall County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 13-12 heartbreaker at the hands of Heritage Christian Academy. Even if the Tigers couldn't come away with the win, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.

DJ Gardner was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing Two bases. while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. Those stolen bases marked the first that he snagged this season. Reid Mitchell was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.

Marshall County's defeat dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Heritage Christian Academy, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to a perfect 2-0.

Looking ahead, a feisty cat fight will be fought as Marshall County Tigers face off against Columbia Central Lions at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Marshall County has given up an average of 9.4 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week. Heritage Christian Academy will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Forrest at 6:00 p.m. on April 7th.
