Baseball Recap: Weslaco Takes a Loss

Weslaco has relied on a stalwart pitchers averaging 3.17 runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Friday. They lost 13-3 to the Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Bears. The Panthers have struggled against the Bears recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost meeting.

Weslaco saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Toby Perez, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3. Perez is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last five games he's played. Jesse James Cantu also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Weslaco's loss dropped their record down to 14-8-1. As for Pharr-San Juan-Alamo, the victory (which was their ninth in a row) raised their record to 21-2-1.

Weslaco wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next match, a 1-0 win against Edinburg on the 15th. As for Pharr-San Juan-Alamo, they have also already played their next game, a 15-0 victory against Edinburg North on the 15th.
