Baseball Preview: Danvers Falcons vs. Salem Witches

The Danvers Falcons will face off against the Salem Witches at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Salem took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Danvers, who comes in off a win.

For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Danvers and Saugus meet (three straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Friday. The Falcons put the hurt on the Sachems with a sharp 8-2 victory. The Falcons not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since April 21st (when they won 8-2).

Bryce Clark made a big impact no matter where he played. He struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season.

In other batting news, Jack Curcuru was excellent, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. Danvers is 4-1 when Curcuru posts two or more runs, but 4-7 otherwise. Chase Richmond was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.

Bishop Fenwick hit Salem with a five-run sixth inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Witches took a 10-7 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Crusaders.

Kevin Soto was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two RBI. Another player making a difference was Yan Tejada Ruiz, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one double.

Danvers' win ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 8-8. As for Salem, their loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-7.
