Basketball Recap: Tunica Academy Comes Up Short

Tunica Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their 17th straight defeat dating back to last season. They were dealt a 65-31 loss at the hands of the DeSoto Thunderbirds. While losing is never fun, the Blue Devils can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 241st in Mississippi, while the Thunderbirds are ranked 78th in Arkansas).

DeSoto got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Emmy Barnes out in front who went 12 of 22 on her way to 34 points and four steals. Barnes continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Carsyn Gore, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 12 assists.

Tunica Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 0-9. As for DeSoto, the victory was the tenth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 28-3.

Tunica Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for DeSoto, they will challenge Deer Creek at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. DeSoto knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past five contests -- so hopefully Deer Creek likes a good challenge.
