Football Game Preview: Cumberland Pirates vs. Nokomis Redskins

The Cumberland Pirates will head out to challenge the Nokomis Redskins at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Cumberland is coming into the contest hot, having won their last five games.

Cumberland will roll into the game after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up seven points on Friday, then bounced right back against Sullivan on Saturday. The Pirates took down the Redskins 35-21.

Meanwhile, Nokomis unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Friday. They came up short against Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond, falling 43-20.

Cumberland will have to contain Daryl Evans as he made an impact in Nokomis' last game. He rushed for 149 yards and a pair of scores while picking up 7.1 yards per carry. Evans' rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his third straight game with at least 106 rushing yards. Another player making a difference was Nolan Herpstreith, who gained 110 total yards and a touchdown.

Nokomis' defeat dropped their record down to 5-2. As for Cumberland, their victory bumped their record up to 7-1.

Everything came up roses for Cumberland against Nokomis when the teams last played back in October of 2024, as the squad secured a 42-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Pirates since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
