Softball Recap: Dover Triumphs

Dover hadn't done well against Ellenville recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Dragons' pitchers stepped up to hand the Blue Devils a 16-0 shutout. With that win, the Dragons brought their scoring average up to 7.8 runs per game.

Daniella Drake was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with three RBI and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Francesca Calabro, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Madisyn Reilly was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Dover was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .458. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Ellenville only posted a batting average of .167.

Dover's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-4. As for Ellenville, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-3.

Looking ahead, Dover is taking a road trip to square off against Spackenkill at 4:15 p.m. on Monday. As for Ellenville, they will square off against Highland at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
