Basketball Recap: Brighton Extends Road Winning Streak to Five

Brighton waltzed into their game on Tuesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They came out on top against the Alta Hawks by a score of 60-49. For the Bengals, this counts as revenge for the 48-47 victory the Hawks walked away with the last time they faced one another back in February of 2024.

Brighton got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Sophie Nielsen out in front who almost dropped a double-double on 14 points and nine rebounds. Nielsen is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last five games she's played. Another player making a difference was Lucy Chin, who went 5 for 10 en route to 19 points.

Brighton smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in five consecutive contests.

Several Hawks players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Izzy Lewis, who posted ten points. Lewis continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Alia Baldassano was another key player, putting up seven points.

Brighton's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-6. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.8 points per game. As for Alta, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-7.

Coincidentally, Brighton and Alta will both be playing East the next time they take the court. Brighton will host East at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, while Alta will host them at 7:00 p.m. on January 28th.
