Basketball Recap: Monticello Comes Up Short

Monticello lost against Dove Creek back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Monticello Buckaroo received a blow as they fell 55-41 to the Dove Creek Bulldogs. The Buckaroo have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

When it comes to explaining why Monticello lost, don't look at Makenna Peterson. Despite the final result, she posted 13 points in addition to eight rebounds and five steals.

It was another big night for Ralynn Hickman, who dropped a double-double on 27 points and ten boards for Dove Creek. That makes it four consecutive games in which Hickman has scored at least a third of Dove Creek's points. Another player making a difference was Taylor Hampton, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 14 rebounds.

Monticello's defeat dropped their record down to 3-12. As for Dove Creek, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-3.

Monticello didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 75-42 loss against Whitehorse on the 24th. Dove Creek has also already played their next contest, a 60-20 victory against Dolores on the 25th.
