Baseball Recap: Mission Takes a Loss

Mission extended their losing streak to four on Monday, dropping their season record down to 6-18 in the process. They came up short against the Lincoln Mustangs, falling 7-0. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Mustangs this season, with their most recent defeat being a 7-3 loss back in March.

Mission saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Rowan Powell, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base.

As for Lincoln, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 13-12 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games.

On Lincoln's side, Branson Derrington made a splash while hitting and pitching. He pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Derrington has become a key player for Lincoln: the team is 3-1 when he allows at most three hits, but 10-11 otherwise. Derrington was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

In other pitching news, Lincoln got a great performance from Xavier Malizia as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over six innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts Malizia has posted since back in March.

Mission didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 12-3 win against Balboa on the 30th. As for Lincoln, they have also already played their next game, an 11-2 loss against Lowell on the 30th.
