Basketball Game Preview: Centennial Apaches vs. Hawthorne Cougars

Centennial and Hawthorne are an even 4-4 against one another since April of 2021, but not for long. Having just played yesterday, the Centennial Apaches will head out on the road to face off against the Hawthorne Cougars at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Centennial is coming into the game on a five-game losing streak.

On Tuesday, Centennial had to suffer through a 78-34 loss at the hands of Crossroads. While losing is never fun, the Apaches can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1123rd, while the Roadrunners are ranked 132nd).

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Hawthorne duked it out withLawndale on Monday. Hawthorne took an 83-65 bruising from Lawndale. The Cougars' loss continues a trend for the team, making it four in a row.

Centennial will need focus on slowing down Kordae Edwards, one of several Hawthorne players who made an impact when they last played. He posted 19 points. Those 19 points gave Edwards a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jakobi Smith, who earned 15 points.

Hawthorne's defeat dropped their record down to 7-12. As for Centennial, their loss dropped their record down to 1-20.

Centennial was dealt a bruising 83-47 defeat at the hands of Hawthorne in their previous matchup two weeks ago. Can Centennial avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
