Brandon Garrison named 2022-23 MaxPreps Oklahoma High School Basketball Player of the Year

Senior center led Del City to its second state title in the past three seasons.

Each year since 2006, MaxPreps has recognized outstanding performers in high school basketball. America's source for high school sports continues the tradition to close out the 2022-23 season by naming the top player in each state. Selections are based on team success and individual excellence in addition to local and state accolades.

Brandon Garrison of Del City is the 2022-23 MaxPreps Oklahoma High School Basketball Player of the Year. The 6-foot-9 senior center led the Eagles to a 21-6 record and the Class 5A state title.

For the season, Garrison averaged 15.7 points, 10.0 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game while shooting 55.1 percent from the field.

Garrison led the way with a game-high 17 points and 16 rebounds in a 35-33 overtime victory against Carl Albert in the state championship game. He also led Del City to the state title in 2021.

Headed to Oklahoma State next season, Garrison is regarded as the No. 42 prospect in the Class of 2023 according to 247Sports. Houston, Kansas and Texas were among other programs to extend offers.

Tyreece Frierson of Memorial (Tulsa) was the 2021-22 Oklahoma Player of the Year. Currently a freshman at the Hutchinson Community College, Frierson averaged 17.3 points and 5.9 assists to guide the Chargers to the Class 5A state title.



Each state's MaxPreps Player of the Year will be considered for inclusion in the MaxPreps All-America Team, which will be released in April. Past selections include 2023 NBA All-Stars Bam Adebayo (2016), Jaylen Brown (2015), DeMar DeRozan (2008), Kevin Durant (2006), Anthony Edwards (2019), De'Aaron Fox (2016), Jrue Holiday (2008), Jaren Jackson (2017), Kyrie Irving (2010), Julius Randle (2013), Jayson Tatum (2016) and Zion Williamson (2018).
