Basketball Recap: Jack Gross Key Part of Team Effort in Warriors Win

B O L D won the last time they faced Mayer Lutheran and things went their way on Thursday too. The B O L D Warriors took down the Mayer Lutheran Crusaders 73-58. Given the Warriors' advantage in MaxPreps' Minnesota basketball rankings (they are ranked 124th, while the Crusaders are ranked 253rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

B O L D's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jack Gross led the charge by dropping a double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds. The dominant performance gave Gross a new career-high in boards. Will Penkert was another key player, putting up 19 points and five rebounds.

The win made it two in a row for B O L D and bumps their season record up to 14-8. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 74.0 points over those games. As for Mayer Lutheran, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-13.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. B O L D will venture away from home to face off against Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past six contests -- so hopefully B O L D likes a good challenge. As for Mayer Lutheran, they are taking a road trip to take on Lester Prairie at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
