Softball Recap: Schurr Beats Bell Gardens for Their Third Straight Victory

Schurr waltzed into their contest on Tuesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They never let the Bell Gardens Lancers get on the board and left with a 13-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Spartans, who have now won seven matches by eight runs or more so far this season.

Melina Sanchez was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs while going 3-for-4. What's more, she posted two doubles, the most she's had since back in March of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jenna Franklin, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. What's more, she posted three RBI, the most she's had since back in March of 2024. Kayla Rodriguez was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.

Schurr was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .469. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bell Gardens only posted a batting average of .125.

Schurr's record is now 10-3-1. As for Bell Gardens, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-7 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Schurr is set to take on their familiar foe Mark Keppel at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Schurr 2.6, Mark Keppel 2.5) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Bell Gardens will square off against rival Alhambra at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday.
