Schurr has gone a perfect 10-0 against Bell Gardens recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Spartans will welcome the Lancers at 3:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Schurr had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 14-run drubbing they dealt Alhambra on Tuesday. The Spartans' pitchers stepped up to hand the Moors a 14-0 shutout. The win continues a trend for the Spartans in their matchups with the Moors: they've now won six in a row.
Melina Sanchez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Sanchez was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.

In other batting news, Schurr let Sarah Romero and Samantha Maldonado run wild. Romero went a perfect 3-for-3 with three doubles, two RBI, and one run, while Maldonado went 2-for-3 with four RBI, one run, and one double. Those three doubles gave Romero a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kayla Rodriguez, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.
Schurr always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .654. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Alhambra only posted an OBP of .267.
Meanwhile, Bell Gardens made easy work of San Gabriel on Tuesday and carried off a 17-6 victory.
Like Schurr, Bell Gardens also got a great game from a two-way player: Gabriella Alvarado. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out seven over four innings pitched. With that strong performance, Alvarado is now averaging an impressive 5 strikeouts per game. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, Breanna Garay was a standout: she fired off two home runs, three runs, and three RBI while going 2-for-3. Nayeli Gomez was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI.
Schurr pushed their record up to 16-4-1 with the win, which was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.9 runs on average over those games. As for Bell Gardens, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-8 record this season.
Thursday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Schurr hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .403. However, it's not like Bell Gardens struggles in that department as they've averaged .335. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Schurr took their win against Bell Gardens when the teams last played back in March by a conclusive 13-0 score. Will the Spartans repeat their success, or do the Lancers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
