Football Recap: Lone Peak Comes Up Short in High-Profile Matchup with American Fork

Lone Peak faced American Fork in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Knights fell just short of the Cavemen by a score of 31-28. While the Knights had to settle for second, they closed the game well in the third quarter, where they outscored the Cavemen 14-3.

Kennan Pula and Cruz Christensen certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Pula picked up 146 receiving yards and a pair of TDs, while Christensen threw for 296 yards and two touchdowns.

Prince Afu had another great game (as he tends to do), rushing for 79 yards and a pair of scores on only 11 carries for American Fork. Afu's longest rush was for an impressive 56 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. Ty Holmstead also helped out with an impressive 97 receiving yards.

Lone Peak's loss dropped their record down to 5-2. As for American Fork, their victory bumped their record up to 6-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Lone Peak will venture away from home to square off against Skyridge at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Knights' defense better be ready for this one: the Falcons have averaged an impressive 45.3 points per game this season. As for American Fork, they are taking a road trip to challenge Lehi at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Pioneers' defense has only allowed 13.6 points per game this season, so the Cavemen's offense will have their work cut out for them.
